ABOUT KATIE

Katie Chew approaches film from every angle—as a critic, programmer, and consultant —bringing insight and humor through a feminist lens, from the screen to the page. She watches movies rigorously and turns sharp opinions into smarter conversations about the stories, film and television that we all enjoy. She is based in the heart of New York City, allowing her to access it all and sharpen her skills as a culture savant.

Katie takes a thoughtful and incisive approach to cinema, examining how gender, power, and representation shape both storytelling and audience reception. Her work highlights overlooked narratives and challenges traditional industry norms, carving out a distinctive voice in contemporary film criticism.

Katie holds a dual master’s degree in film and television producing from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and Stern School of Business, as well as two Bachelor degree’s in English and Theater & Performance Studies from Georgetown University. Her interdisciplinary training—spanning critical theory, creative development, and business strategy—deepens her insight as a critic, sharpens her instincts as a programmer, and equips her to consult on film projects with both artistic and industry-savvy perspective.

Katie currently serves as a Programming Associate at the Key West Film Festival. She has experience in the art department for film and television productions, including titles like FBI: Most Wanted and Leaving Yellowstone. Katie previously interned for Secret Engine, writing script coverage and preparing a weekly newsletter that included entertainment news, local theater, and noteworthy articles. She has also volunteered at Tribeca Film Festival. Katie takes pleasure in giving back to the independent film community through her volunteer work.
